Prof. Mohamed Helmy El Borai, PhD.
Mohamed Helmy Abdel Moneim El Borai, has been a Professor of
Pathology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI),
Cairo University, since 2001. He obtained his M.B., B.Ch. degree , from
the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University
in 1981 and his Ph.D degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Leeds
University, England in 1988. He was granted a
United Nations post doctoral fellowship through the International Center
for Genetic Engineering and
Biotechnology during 1991- 1993 in Turin, Italy, in the fields of Molecular Biology and Immunogenetics. As a
Lecturer, since 1990, he established the first Cancer Molecular Pathology lab at the Pathology
Department, National
Cancer Institute, Cairo
University, as a cancer research and routine cancer diagnosis facility.
He has been Head of the Tissue Culture,
Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology Unit, Department of Pathology, NCI
since 2006. He has supervised a number
of Ph.D theses in the field of Cancer Molecular Pathology and has
published several articles in international peer
reviewed as well as local journals and projects in the same field. As a
member of the Executive Committee
responsible for the National Strategy for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the
Ministry of Higher Education
and State for Scientific Research (MHESR), since 2005, he has been involved in policies
and decision making
concerning applications of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in the Medical
field. He is also a reviewer for the
Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) projects, MHESR, as well as a reviewer
of other Egyptian/
International joint projects including the Egyptian /American joint projects through the
Academy of Scientific
Research and Technology, MHESR.
