Meeting with the Egyptian
Professors in the field of Roads and Transportation:
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington organized a meeting on January 15th, 2008 for the Egyptian professors who participated in the transportation conference which was held in Washington. Prof. Maha Mahmoud, the Cultural Counselor presented the different programs sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and discussed the possibility of increasing the number of Egyptian graduate students and the possible approaches to reduce the tuition fees.

The general assembly of the Egyptian Students Association in North America
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington hosted the general assembly of the Egyptian Students Association in North America (ESANA) on January 19th and 20th, 2008. Prof. Maha Mahmoud, the Cultural Counselor and Prof. Nebal Eltanbouly , the Cultural Counselor in Canada discussed with ESANA members the roles of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureaus in the US and Canadaand the problems facing the students abroad. During the meeting, the new ESANA board was elected.

International day of languages and cultural diversity:
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau participated in the international day of languages and cultural diversity which was organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh. Mr. Mohamed Nayel performed the tanoura dance as an example of Egyptian Folk dance which was admired by the attendee.

April School Exams in Egyptian Curriculm At 4/12/2008

Lecture on Culture and Education in Egypt to US citizens from Pennsylvania
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau organized a lecture for about 50 US citizens from Pennsylvania on April 16th 2008. Prof. Maha Mahmoud, the Cultural Counselor answered the attendee’s questions about the Egyptian traditions and the Egyptian-American relationships.

The Egyptian Cultural and Educational
Bureau organized a concert hosting Kareem Nagi, the talented
Egyptian drummer and his band on April 28th 2008
where they presented pieces of combined Egyptian and classic
music. The concert was introduced by Prof. Maha Mahmoud, the
Cultural Counselor who talked about the importance of spreading
the Arabic music in the US.

Lecture on the role of Verdi “Aida” in Egyptian history:
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in collaboration with Hands along the Nile Association organized a lecture about the Role of Verdi's "Aida" in Egyptian History on May 6th 2008. The guest speaker was Ms. Nimet Habachy, the former host of WQXR Radio's "New York at Night" and free lance music lecturer.

International
festival of school children in Washington DC
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau participated in the International festival of school children in Washington DC organized by Maryland International center on May 10th 2008. Over 1000 students and their families attended the festival. Representative of 18 countries presented the crafts and antiques reflecting their cultures.
Lectures on the “Image of
Arabic Islamic Culture in US school
textbooks”
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau organized three meetings for Prof. Mohamed Abou Leilah and Prof. Mostaf Elhalougi, members of the committee for correcting the image of the Arabic Islamic Culture in the textbooks of US schools. These meetings took place in Richmond Virginia), Columbia Maryland) and Washington (DC) in presence of the officials from the Department of Education, school teachers and the publishers.

Celebration of the month of
Ramadan
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau organized an Iftar in Ramadan on Thursday September 11, 2008. Many of the Egyptian graduate students and researchers attended this celebration. Dr. Osman Shinaishin, the director of North Africa and Middle East Program at the National Science Foundation talked about the meaning and importance of fasting and the month of Ramadan.

Prof. Mostafa Elsayed’s Lecture
on Nanotechnology
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational
Bureau hosted Prof. Mostafa Elsayed on Friday September 26,
2008. Professor Elsayed who is the Julius Brown Chair and
Regents Professor and the Director of Laser Dynamics Laboratory,
Georgia Institute of Technology has been named by
President George W. Bush as one of eight recipients of the 2007
National Medal of Science, the nation’s highest honor for
Science and Engineering. Prof. Elsayed talked about “
Nanotechnology, the What and Why”.

Lecture on “ The Nubian Museum”
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau hosted Dr. Osama AbdelWareth, the director of the Nubian Museum on Monday October 6th, 2008. Dr. AbdelWareth talked about the Nubian Museum, Nubian Culture and the importance of preserving the Nubian heritage.

International
Festival at the World Bank
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau participated with the World Bank in organizing the International Festival on October 30th, 2008.
Lecture on the monument of Bahria Oasis
The Egyptian cultural and Educational Bureau hosted Mr. Hussein Bessier , the archeologist at the Supreme Council of antiquates on November 6, 2008. Mr. Bessier gave a lecture on the monument of Bahria Oasis.

music
The Egyptian cultural and Educational Bureau hosted Mr. Hassan Elsaghir on November 11, 2008 Mr. Hassan Elsagher who talked about the development of the Nubian song and music.

Celebration of the talented
students at the White House
Prof. Dr. Maha M. K. Mahmoud, the Cultural Counselor attended the celebration of the talented children at the White House on Friday November 14th, 2008. The Egyptian student Kareem Mohamed Matar received this year’s prize from Mrs. L. Busch.
El-Adha feast celebration
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau organized a celebration on the 4th of December, 2008 for El-Adha feast. The children of the Egyptian researchers, the graduate students and the Egyptian community attended this celebration and received some gifts from the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau.

Lecture on the Nubian History
The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau hosted Mr. Hussein Bessier, the archeologist at the Supreme Council of antiquates on December 17, 2008. Mr. Bessier gave a lecture on the history of Nubian Pharos.
